Mayan blessing on our one month anniversary

Time has flown as we delve into this new culture and our training for municipal development. Our actual one month anniversary was September 11th, a day so important in many ways. So fitting that on that day we attended a Mayan ceremony where we were blessed by a spiritual person who asked God to keep us safe during these next 2 years. So far, so good and I intend to keep it that way…only problems so far have been rather minor.

Burning sweet items so that we might have sweetness in our lives

Mayan Ceremony

The whole country is gearing up for Independence Day tomorrow, September 15th…lots of parades, fireworks, and other events. I will be sure to post those. I am quite interested to see who wins climbing the greased 5 meter long pole tomorrow in our town…apparently group efforts are allowed.

  4. Hi Janet,
I’m one of your dance partners from the Monday night dance and would like to tell you how much I enjoy reading about your experiences in Guatemala. They provide a personal insight into the way of life there that only can come from personal observations. May God keep you in his care until you return to be with us again.

    Fred

  5. Hello,
I am enjoying working with Carolyn…she’s been a great friend! I’ll make sure to post some photos that include her now and then.

  6. Hello,
Sorry to take so long to respond. The best person I have for right now to contact is Craig Badger who is the Training Director for Peace Corps Guatemala. He could then forward your email to the country director, Martha Keays. His email address is: cbadger@gt.peacecorps.gov. Craig’s phone number is 5203-8757.
